Purdue Autism Network (PAN)
SLHS is taking the lead in the Purdue Autism Network (PAN) initiative: PAN was initiated in May 2008 to respond to (1) an increasing, significant need in the wider community for adequate treatment and consulting services related to autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), (2) a rapidly expanding need for properly prepared ASD professionals, and (3) an increased funding focus on ASD research by the National Institutes of Health and other agencies.
PAN is an interdisciplinary group encompassing over 30 clinical and research faculty across the university as well as local professionals in public education and other fields who are dedicated to developing a center of clinical and research excellence in ASDs. This center will promote research in understanding, diagnosing and treating individuals with ASD and in translating research findings to public education and health applications. The center will also foster students’ intellectual, professional, and personal commitment to ASD research and intervention. Further, the center will seek to enhance Purdue’s presence and impact in the growing field of neurodevelopmental research and intervention. In striving toward these targets, PAN intends to collaborate with other ASD programs in Indiana and adjacent states.
