Biography:

Jeanette S. Leonard is a Clinical Professor Emerita in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in both Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is also a member of the Inaugural Cadre of Child Language Specialists. Jeanette Leonard also maintains a professional license in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology as well as teaching certification in the State of Indiana.

Professor Jeanette Leonard's clinical background has included experience in a variety of settings: a consultant for a language stimulation program in a community day care system, a Speech-Language Pathologist in a public school setting, a Speech-Language Pathologist in an acute care facility for emotionally disturbed children, and a hearing clinician and educational Audiologist in a large public school program for hearing impaired children.

Professor Jeanette Leonard's academic and clinical activities at Purdue University have been quite varied. She has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in aural rehabilitation. In addition, she has coordinated the Preschool Language Intervention Program with an Early Childhood Specialist, coordinated the clinical services and practicum experiences for the Summer Fun Child Language Research Program, and has provided individual and group aural rehabilitation services for children and adults involving both Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology graduate students. Professor Jeanette Leonard's particular interests involve pediatric speech and language assessment and treatment as well as communication intervention for children and adults with hearing loss utilizing cochlear implants, hearing aids, and other assistive technologies.
