PSY Professor Awarded 5-year Grant

Dr. Chris Eckhardt (Associate Professor) was awarded a 5-year, $2.6 million research grant from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism ("Mechanisms of Alcohol-Facilitated Intimate Partner Violence"), in collaboration with Dominic Parrott from Georgia State University. The study is a laboratory-based research project designed to examine specific affective and cognitive processes that may mediate the relationships between alcohol intoxication and intimate partner violence (IPV) among couples at high risk for IPV. The goals of this research are to (1) test a mediational model of alcohol-facilitated IPV etiology, and (2) evaluate mechanisms of change via a theory-based manipulation that will inform IPV interventions for at risk men and women.
