Student Organizations: 

NSMH (National Society of Minorities in Hospitality) at Purdue.The Chapter Board election process is due on Wednesday, December 6th. A new 9-member board is elected annually as the leaders for the following year. These individuals are responsible for ensuring the continued success of our organization. The files of Executive Board Duties and 2018-2019 Board Applications are available in the Student Service Office MRRT 128.

Study Abroad:

  • Thailand Study Abroad CALL OUT: Tuesday, December 5th and Wednesday December 6th in MRRT 265 at 8:00pm for both call outs. This is for Dec. 27th 2018 - Jan 6th 2019 Winter Break. Contact: Dr. Howard Adler (765) 494-5998 or adlerh@purdue.edu
  • Study Abroad France (Spring break 2018 )  Sign up is now open on the study abroad website! You can sign up right away. HTM 398 Cuisine and Culture of Bordeaux France is a 3 credit class that fulfills a selective or an elective category. The upcoming trip will be to Bordeaux and fill focus entirely on the wine and food of this region. There will be tasting, winery visits, specialty meals, market tours some cheese making facilities etc. included. You are welcome to come see me for more details on the itinerary. Ambarish Lulay alulay@purdue.edu MRRT room 159. The typical cost of the program is 3400-3800 $. This includes everything door to door except for a few meals when abroad. The class meets on campus 7 times and travels over spring break. It is truly the best option listed for anyone passionate about food and wine and how it plays into French culture and the culture of hospitality.

  •  CHINA Internship/Study Abroad Program (May 1st – November 10, 2018). Application forms are available and accepted immediately by visiting www.htminternship.us and/or talk with your HTM academic advisor. Come to find out about this one-of-a-kind program. Since its inception in 2000, over 200 HTM students have participated in the program, which carries 12 HTM credits, including HTM202, 302, 181, 372, and 390.  The program is financially sponsored by multinational hotel companies such as Shangri-La, InterContinental, Novotel, and Sofitel. The generous corporate sponsorship covers international airfare and room and board. Come to the callouts to discover more about the program and learn from the former participants; or you can start the application by visiting www.htminternship.us and/or talk with your HTM academic advisor.
  • Mallorca, Spain Semester program:   Study and work in one of the most beautiful locations in all of Europe. Come learn about this full semester Study Abroad program which incorporates either HTM 202 or HTM 302.  You can participate either  August to December of 2017  or  Feb to June 2018.Please remember that you would also be eligible to receive $3000 in Purdue Study Abroad Scholarship.  For information please contact Dr. Howard Adler  adlerh@purdue.edu   494-5998
  • Spain: Spring Break Program (March 10 - March 18, 2018) Based in Madrid and touring cities such as Segovia and Toledo Tour of Prado Museum, El Rastro Market and World Tourism Organization. Contact: Dr. Howard Adler adlerh@purdue.edu .
  • South Africa: Culture & Agritourism: Cape Town, South Africa Maymester 2018, This Maymester’s program (May 6-May 27, 2018) is the first subject matter and topics from HTM, Horticulture, and Agriculture thru integrating excursions to wildlife and nature-based tourism sites; wine and olive-oil vineyards; cooking demonstrations with the HTA School of Culinary Art; and visits to places such as Robben Island, used as a maximum-security prison for political prisoners of South Africa’s apartheid regime, including former President Nelson Mandela.  Come learn how agritourism​ and horticulture help us understand and experience the history of the continent called the Cradle of Civilization!  

Special Topics/Events:

The Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Team is coming to HTM!
They are looking to  fill their Hospitality & Events Coordinator Position for 2018 (February – October) – but their prime time is in May  for the Indy 500!
Ms. Wartman will be in HTM – Career Center on Wednesday, December  6th. She would like to conduct 1st  Screening Interviews between 9am – 12pm in our HTM Career Center. Stop by in business casual and bring your resume!
They are looking for an outgoing, personable Senior or Junior.  International Students (CPT’s) are welcome!

Need, HTM tutors for our students here in athletics. Could you send a message out to your students that we are hiring.  Our requirements are: 1. Must have received no less than a B in the course wishing to tutor. 2. Must sign up to tutor a minimum of 3 classes. 3. Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. If you have specific students please have them email me directly. Otherwise they can go to the student employment site and fill out an application.

AHLEI (American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute) Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) Examination Fall 2017 Sitting: Thursday November 30th, 2017 7am to 8:15 am in MRRT 148.
