School of Health Sciences Honors Program Course Information

Fall Seminar Course:

HSCI 19501-Freshman Honors Seminar Course. In the fall semester, Freshman HSCI Honors Students will enroll in 1 credit hour of HSCI 19501. The fall seminar course will be a freshman only course in which incoming students into the HSCI Honors Program will be oriented and familiarized with the School of Health Sciences and Purdue University. During the fall semester, through presentations by HSCI faculty and through student initiatives, students will establish their Honors Project for the following spring semester and be matched with a faculty mentor.

Spring Seminar Course:

HSCI 19501-Freshman Honors Seminar Course. Students will enroll in 1 credit hour of HSCI 19501 also in the spring semester. During the spring semester all HSCI Honors Students will attend the same seminar. All HSCI Honors Students will give a presentation to update their progress on their Honors Projects. In addition, various topics will be discussed throughout the semester.

Spring Honors Project Course:

HSCI 19601-Freshman Honors Project. During the spring semester, Freshman HSCI Honors Students will also enroll in 1 credit hour of HSCI 19601. Students will earn course credit for the work they complete on their project under the supervision of their assigned faculty and/or professional mentor. Faculty mentor matches and projects will be established during the fall semester. Honors Students should plan to work on their projects 3-4 hours per week. Hours are to be arranged between the student and the faculty mentor, with at least weekly or biweekly meeting times set aside for a one-on-one session between the student and faculty mentor. Some students may also be matched to a professional mentor off campus depending on their interests and future goals. The regular meeting times should be set up during the first week of classes each semester. Working hours must not conflict with other course obligations or consume too much of students' study time.
