Community Collaboration
Engaging the Purdue and local communities is an important priority for the Ismail Center. It accomplishes this through collaborations with and direct service to local organizations. Some examples of this involvement are listed below.
Coalition for Living Well After 50
The Greater Lafayette Coalition for Living Well After 50 is to provide all older adults with the opportunity, support and environment to assist them in leading healthy, active and productive lives. Specifically, the Coalition seeks to extend the years of active independent life, reduce chronic illness and disability, and improve the quality of life for older persons in the greater Lafayette community.
Senior Center of Tippecanoe County
The Ismail Center has partnered with the senior center to develop and administer an exercise program for adults over the age of 50. The program includes fitness assessments, health screenings, education and exercise classes.
Health and Fitness Screenings
Health and fitness assessments are available for local businesses and organizations in the Greater Lafayette Area. Capabilities include blood profiles (cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose), blood pressure, body fat percentage, strength, flexibility, aerobic endurance and more.
Health Fairs
The Ismail Center continues to advocate regular exercise and physical activity for all adults by participating in local health fairs. Information about the benefits of exercise and how to get started on a program are just some of the topical literature distributed at the fairs. Fitness specialists are on hand to answer questions and conduct assessments.
