2013 Outstanding Seniors

We are excited to announce the 2013 Outstanding Seniors in Consumer Science! This is an annual, CSR departmental award given to a student or students in each major who have demonstrated a level of academic, professional, and personal accomplishment which makes them stand out among their peers. These students have exemplary service and leadership accomplishments within the university, the college of HHS, the department of Consumer Science, and their communities. Take a look at the accomplishments of the students in Consumer Science! We salute them!

 

Paige Tomfohrde Accomplishments Paige Tomfohrde

On campus, Paige has served as the CSR representative to the HHS Curriculum Committee. She is a costume designer and shop assistant with the Purdue Theatre department and the photography and videography liaison for the Purdue Fashion Asssociation (PFA) fashion showcase. She is a past winner of Project Matthews, PFA's 24 hour Apparel Design Competition. She has assisted in classroom laboratories as a teaching assistant preparing patterns and textiles for class demonstrations. Paige spent the summer of 2011 enrolled in the intensive fashion design program at the Academia Italiana in Florence, Italy. In the fall of 2011 and spring of 2012, she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and earned an A.A.S. in Fashion Design. While in New York, Paige worked with Eileen Fisher as a product development intern and with Steve A. Cutting as a design intern. Her garments were featured in the AAS Exhibition at FIT in spring 2012 and she served as a backstage coordinator for the Annual Red Dress Fashion Show. She currently works as a sales associate with Lane Bryant. In May 2013 she will earn her B.S. in Apparel Design & Technology and a minor in Theatre Design & Production. Paige is currently seeking full time work in design or product development.

 

Sarah Fox Accomplishments Sarah Fox

In 2013, Sarah will earn dual degrees. She will complete her degree in Financial Counseling & Planning from the College of Health and Human Sciences and her degree in Management & Accounting from the School of Management. Her professional work experience includes a summer internship with JPMorgan Chase where she was a credit analyst. She has worked for nearly three years as a part-time student campus employee while attending school. In the spring of 2011 she traveled to Australia where she studied abroad as an exchange student at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. She is involved on campus as the treasurer for the Purdue Collegiate Financial Planners Club and is the Chief Financial Officer for Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity. Sarah has served as a Career Conference Host for both the Consumer Science and Krannert career fairs. Philanthropically she has been involved in College Mentors for Kids and Purdue Dance Marathon (Dancer Relations Committee). Sarah has accepted a full time position with JPMorgan Chase as a credit analyst.

 

Kelli Flynn Accomplishments Kelli Flynn

Kelli has developed her affinity for fashion, retailing, and public relations through professional experiences in New York City with BCBG Max Azria Group as a public relations intern and with Alice + Olivia as an international sales intern. Through these internships she has had the opportunity to work a Coterie Trade Show in 2011, a Visual Presentation in 2012, and New York Fashion Week in 2012. Kelli will return to New York for Fashion Week this February 2013. In 2011 she completed a public relations and marketing internship with Betty Barclay in London, England while also studying abroad. This semester, Kelli is working with Collette, a local small business retailing boutique on campus. She is a leader in CSR having served as a Career Conference Host and as a Peer Mentor and teaching assistant for prospective and current retail management students in CSR 100. On campus, Kelli has led incoming freshmen as a Boiler Gold Rush Team Leader. In 2012, she earned an A.A.S. in Fashion Merchandise Management from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and along with her Retail Management degree is completing a minor in Organizational Leadership & Supervision. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Kelli is currently interviewing for buying/merchandising positions in the fashion sector.

 

John Gorbandt Accomplishments John Gorbandt

John is described as a leader, a coach, and a consummate professional by the sales faculty who nominated him. In 2012, he completed a sales internship with Victaulic in Easton, PA. On campus, John is the student Ambassador for Victaulic where he assists in recruiting and brand awareness. He is the President of the Purdue Agricultural Sales and Marketing Club and a student volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Purdue Alumni Student Experience. Within the department, John serves as as undergraduate teaching assistant for Personal Finance and has coordinated, completed, and coached others in sales competitions. In 2012 he placed 2nd in the Abbott Nutrition Sales Contest. John is completing a certificate in Entrepreneurship. He has accepted a full time position with Victaulic selling fire protection systems.

 

HHS Outstanding Senior representing CSR

Katie Azzi Accomplishments Katie Azzi

Katie Azzi serves the department, the college, the campus, and the community. In CSR, she is the treasurer and past assistant treasurer of the Purdue Fashion Association and the student committee chair and past marketing committee chair for the Professional Development Council. On campus, she is a tour guide for the Office of Admissions, has served as a Boiler Gold Rush Team Leader, and was a floor senator for McCutcheon Hall. Her professional experiences include work with Freckles Graphics in West Lafayette as a production and design intern and with Anthropologie in Kansas City, Missouri as a visual design intern. Katie is one of the few students who work on undergraduate research. Guided by professors Megan Norris and Nancy Strickler, she is the prototype designer for the vest and head piece to be used with the Tobii Eye-Tracking software. She will graduate in May with a minor in Art & Design.
