HHS announces the appointment of Tom Templin as Interim Head of the Department of Consumer Science
Thomas Templin, professor of health and kinesiology, has been named interim head of the Department of Consumer Science effective Jan. 22. The appointment was made by Christine Ladisch, dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences. Templin came to Purdue University in 1977 as an assistant professor in physical education. He became a full professor in 1992. Throughout his tenure at the university, Templin has been engaged in both undergraduate and graduate education as a teacher and adviser. His research focus is the study of the lives and careers of teachers. He was the recipient of the 2012 Scholar Award from the Special Interest Group on Learning and Instruction in Physical Education with the American Educational Research Association. Templin is a fellow in the National Academy of Kinesiology. He has bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana University and a doctorate from the University of Michigan. Templin replaces Sugato Chakravarty, who will return to fulltime teaching and research. A search for a permanent head of the department will begin later this year.
