Identities and Inclusion - Amy Moors

Dr. Amy Moors is the Director of Social Science Research and Evaluation in the College of Engineering and a faculty affiliate of Indiana University’s Kinsey Institute. As director, she leads research and evaluation projects aimed at improving the workplace environment for engineering faculty. Prior to joining Purdue, she was a postdoctoral research scholar at the National Center for Institutional Diversity and the University of Michigan’s ADVANCE Program. She earned a Ph.D. in Psychology and Women’s Studies from the University of Michigan, a M.S. in Experimental Psychology from Villanova University, and a B.A. in Psychology and Women’s Studies from William Paterson University.

Broadly speaking, her research lies at the intersections of gender, sexuality, interpersonal relationships, and institutional change. She takes an interdisciplinary approach to her scholarship and employs a range of methodologies (longitudinal surveys, experimental interventions, Google Trends, and feminist perspectives).

Some of her current projects include a large-scale faculty retention and success initiative with Kathleen Howell, Klod Kokini, Patrice Buzzanell, and many other scholars across campus. This initiative aims to promote faculty awareness of bias, foster collegiality, and prepare faculty members with evidence-based strategies to create an inclusive campus environment. In addition, she is working on a project that examines the malleability of men’s perceptions of which characteristics and skills are valued in STEM (for instance, goals of independence v. goals of communion; research collaboration with Jes Matsick and funded by the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership). She also maintains an active line of research on stigmatized sexualities (queer and consensually non-monogamous relationships) and (re)production of mono-normative and gendered assumptions in contemporary theories of human development.
