
Health Care and Nutrition in Costa Rica
Summer 2012
Immerse yourself in the rich culture of Costa Rica while making a favorable impact on the quality of health care delivery to its people through service-learning projects.
This three credit summer program, designed to give a better understanding of health care needs of a changing and dynamic society, explores healthcare delivery in Costa Rica through a combination of classroom coursework with clinical experience. Participants work alongside public health nurses and perform health assessments through home visits and medical clinics serving the marginalized populations of Turrialba, Costa Rica.

Visit an organic sugar cane coffee farm

Tour local hospital in Turrialba

Visit Centro Agronomico Tropical de Investigacion y Ensenanza's (CATIE) botanical garden and learn about medicinal plants

Learn about Costa Rica's universal preventative health care
