How does my student register for classes?
Most students will register for classes during the Day on
Campus program in June and July. Those students who are not
able to register at this time should contact the school
to which they have been admitted to make other arrangements.
Can I find out how my student is doing in classes?
Unless the student qualifies for dependent status under IRS
regulations, only directory information for a non-restricted
student may be released to a parent. Non-custodial parents
have the same rights as custodial parents in the case of a
separation or divorce. Even with evidence of dependency, the
release of educational records to a parent is only permissible,
not required. We encourage parents to ask their student for
the information, or obtain a signed release from the student
to disclose the particular record(s). For more information,
visit the following Web site: http://www.purdue.edu/Registrar/Records/FERPA/index.htm,
or contact the Office of the Registrar, Record Services, (765)
494-6155.
What classes are offered?
Visit the Space Management
and Academic Scheduling Web page for a complete listing.
Keep in mind, though, that some classes offered are restricted
to students in specific majors or schools. Also, not all classes
offered can be applied to every degree program at Purdue.
Students should work with their academic advisors to ensure
that the classes they want to take are applicable toward their
degree at Purdue.
How does a student drop and/or add classes? When are add
and drop deadlines?
Students will need to meet with their academic advisors and
complete an Office of the Registrar Form 23 to drop or add
a class. Depending on the time during the semester, students
may also need to obtain additional signatures to drop or add.
See Academic
and Administrative Calendars on the Office of the Registrar's
Web page, and select the current semester to check the latest
dates. These dates are also listed in the Mortar Board,
Purdue's student planner.
How does a student "test out" of classes? Students
should first consult their academic advisor to determine which tests, if any,
that they are eligible to take. In order to take a test, a student must
complete a Dean of Students Testing Center Form 231 with their advisor's
signature. Many students take these tests during the Day on Campus program, but
tests are available on several dates throughout the year. See the
Dean of Students Testing Center for more information.
What if a student has trouble choosing a major?
There are multiple resources on campus, including the Career
Resources Center in Schleman Hall, Room 207. They may help
a student who is undecided about a major and wants to learn
about the possibilities at Purdue. Students should also consult
their academic advisor for more information.
