Dr. Ian Smith, VH1's Celebrity Fit Club and medical contributor to ABC's The View, will discuss the need for health care providers and patients to build strong resilient partnerships with media, community organizations and policy makers to improve the quality and eliminate the ethnic healthcare disparities. Smith will discusses the basic elements of living a healthier, happier lifestyle through exercise and nutrition and will tackle health questions from the audience.

The Mobile Learning Lab guides guests through an exploration of improved health. Guests learn about deteriorating health conditions in the U.S. and then experience these health conditions through the eyes of individual profiles detailed in interactive kiosks. Guests have the opportunity to experience what extra weight feels like and explore how to properly read food labels. Before leaving the lab, guests challenged to think about ways to inspire or influence healthier lifestyles in their community. Watch the Learning Lab in action!

Campus Fit Club

Open to Purdue employees, students, retirees and alumni
$90 per person for 12 group sessions


Registration is now open for the Recreational Sports "Campus Fit Club." Modeled after popular TV shows like Celebrity Fit Club and the Biggest Loser, personal trainers at the Recreational Sports Center will guide participants through a 12-week personalized exercise program. Points will be awarded for healthy weight loss, as well as for a variety of physical activity and educational opportunities.


To start, find a team of 3-6 people. The cost is $90/person and includes 12 group sessions for your team with a personal trainer. Register by Feb 3 to receive priority placement. To register, visit the Rec Sports Center or call (765) 494-3109. The program starts the week of Feb 1 and ends April 23.

Purdue has a unique resource in the Healthy Purdue dataset. For several years, health assessment data was captured on thousands of people who participated in the Healthy Purdue program.
During this symposium, faculty will hear about several research projects done with this data and learn about how they can access this resource. Healthy Purdue participants will hear about what has been learned as a result of the HP program.
