Background on Retail/Licensed Product
All Purdue Hammer Down Cancer product is produced by official Purdue licensees. As Purdue licensees, such companies pay a royalty (% of wholesale sales) to the University when selling officially licensed products to retailers worldwide. Purdue University receives payment of that wholesale royalty once licensees sell the licensed University products to distributors and retailers (i.e., the royalty is not based on retailers' consumer-facing prices in-store or online). For Hammer Down Cancer product, the retail donation model works as follows:
Purdue University does not retain any profits generated by royalties received due to the sale of Hammer Down Cancer products. All dollars are either donated to the Purdue Center for Cancer Research or used to pay expenses incurred to produce and promote the campaign (e.g., marketing and promotional asset costs to build awareness for the Hammer Down Cancer campaign, which drives people to get screened, educates others about the importance of screenings and encourages direct donations to Purdue University Center for Cancer Research).
Once production costs are covered to produce Hammer Down Cancer merchandise, Purdue University donates the full remainder of the licensees' wholesale royalties directly to the Purdue Center for Cancer Research.
