About Hammer Down Cancer

Why are we so involved with cancer research? The answer is simple — cancer is an issue that has directly touched the lives of so many Boilermakers. We also know that limitations in cancer funding make it challenging for researchers to pursue high-risk, potentially transformative research. That’s what makes funding from individuals and organizations so valued. Gifts provide researchers additional resources that can take a project from discovery all the way through a clinical trial. Your gifts will be used to transform Purdue’s scientists’ research with one goal in mind — CURE CANCER! Every successful step we make in cancer research now could have important benefits for you, or someone you love, in the future. Thank you for being a partner in Purdue’s mission and goal for sharing hope with those who need it most.

Overview of Purdue’s fundraising efforts for the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research

Purdue’s Hammer Down Cancer campaign raises money for the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research — where the mission is discovery and the goal is to cure cancer. The majority of the money raised comes from the sale of Hammer Down Cancer merchandise at retail and various events throughout the week leading up to the Hammer Down Cancer football game.

The Purdue University Center for Cancer Research brings together the best minds from within Purdue University and beyond to study cancers where they start — inside the cell. The Center discovers how cancer develops, progresses and responds to treatments. Our work leads to the advancement of new medicines, diagnostic tools and treatment devices.
