The Graduate School Advance to a Higher Degree

Ombuds Office

The Graduate School offers two venues for you to gain assistance in resolving problems and conflicts:

  • Since July 1, 2004, the Graduate School has offered an ombuds to assist graduate students, faculty, and staff. Currently, Associate Dean Tom Atkinson and Director of the Office of Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs Colleen Gabauer serve as the Graduate School ombuds. Dr. Atkinson and Dr. Gabauer regularly interact with people, mostly graduate students, on a range of issues and concerns connected to graduate education.

  • Since Fall 2009, the Graduate School has offered peer ombuds to assist graduate students. These ombuds are trained graduate students who provide a peer's perspective regarding a student's concerns. The Graduate School hopes to increase the access graduate students have to ombuds resources through peer ombuds.
