Dr. Rubert Pérez was born and raised on the island of Puerto Rico. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico–Mayagüez, where he carried out undergraduate research in the areas of analytical and organic chemistry. Dr. Rubert Pérez was also part of the Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) and the Sloan Undergraduate Research Program (SURP), where he was introduced to graduate education in the sciences. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he earned his MS and PhD degrees in chemistry at Purdue University. Dr. Rubert Pérez is currently at Northwestern University in Chicago working as a postdoctoral researcher in the area of biomaterials and tissue regeneraton.
