Current Research Interests:

Research in the Xia Laboratory is focused on mass spectrometric method and tool development to achieve fast, sensitive, and confident structural characterization of biomolecules.  Dr. Xia’s group has taken a unique approach by utilizing radical reactions toward biomolecules to harness high-level structural information including C-C double bond location in lipids, protein disulfide bond linkage patterns, and the stereochemistry of sugar units within carbohydrates. Radical reactions are also used to synthesize protein radicals in gas phase. Their intrinsic chemical properties including intra- or inter molecular reactivity and radical migration are further probed by mass spectrometry.
