Purdue University International Rankings


  • Purdue University is the #1 STEM university for international students (i.e., Purdue matriculates the most international students in STEM disciplines in the U.S.) per the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
  • Purdue's international student population is the second largest of U.S. public institutions.  (Open Doors report by the Institute of International Education.)
  • According to Times Higher Education, Purdue is a Top 50 World University.


  • Purdue University was ranked 56th in the 2012 Academic Ranking of World Universities by the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Purdue was 61st last year and 69th in 2010. In specialty rankings, Purdue ranks 10th in engineering, 19th in chemistry, 20th in computer science and 47th in overall science. 
  • Purdue University is ranked in the top 100 in the QS World University Rankings. QS considered more than 2,000 universities for the top 100. Purdue’s overall ranking is 95. 
  • For the third time in two months, Purdue has been in the top 100 of a world university ranking. Purdue is 69th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. 


  • Purdue University has the second-largest international student population among U.S. public universities and is fourth overall (2011 Open Doors report by the Institute of International Education). 
  • Purdue moved up two spots to 85th in QS World University rankings. For the 2011 survey, 2,000 universities were considered and over 700 were evaluated. Purdue is the state's only public university ranked in the top 100. 

QS World University Rankings has introduced new rankings by subject. The 2011 QS World University Rankings by Subject feature has made Engineering & Technology Rankings available first. These rankings support Purdue's position as one of the top Engineering and Technology universities in the world:

  • Computer Science & Information Systems: Purdue ranked 29 internationally.
  • Civil & Structural Engineering Rankings: Purdue ranked 29th internationally.
  • Chemical Engineering Rankings: Purdue ranked 30th internationally. 
  • Electrical Engineering Rankings: Purdue ranked 32nd internationally.
  • Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Rankings: Purdue ranked 30th internationally.


  • Purdue ranks 65th in a list of the top 500 world universities (Shanghai World Rankings or ARWU, 2010). 
  • Purdue University ranks among the top international educational institutions with the most influence in plant and animal sciences research reports and reviews (Times Higher Education, 2010). 
  • Purdue's Krannert School of Management's International Executive MBA Program ranks 21st worldwide (Financial Times, 2010).
