Joy L. Colwell, J.D. (ex officio member), became Director of Graduate Studies at Purdue University Calumet in August, 2010. She obtained her Doctor of Jurisprudence cum laude from Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana. She joined the faculty of Purdue University Calumet in 2000, where she now holds the rank of Professor of Organizational Leadership and Supervision. She regularly writes on graduate education and distance learning topics.

She is a trained family and civil mediator who regularly provides training in civil mediation for attorneys in the State of Indiana. She is also a trained peer reviewer for Distance Education under Quality Matters guidelines, and served as a faculty peer mentor for the campus' DE mentoring program. She is a member of the Graduate Studies Division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and has been elected Secretary/Treasurer for the Division. She will be installed in June 2011.
