Job Summary: Performs geologic mapping and basic and applied research in the State of Indiana.

Works within the Geologic Mapping section; participates in externally funded programs such as the USGS National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (STATEMAP and Great Lakes Geologic Mapping Coalition); and applies specialized glacial geological and related training to glacial stratigraphy and geomorphology of Indiana. Uses GIS, database, remote sensing, and other software for analysis and depiction of Indiana’s glacial geology and geomorphology; prepares proposals for external funding; serves as critical reviewer for professional papers and abstracts; and presents papers at professional meetings. Responds to external geological service requests including government officials, consultants, and citizens; coordinates and conducts research with federal, state, and local agencies and other universities; and communicates basic scientific findings in lectures, field trips, geologic maps, professional journals, and other publications.

REQUIRED: Master’s degree with course work in glacial geology and working knowledge of glacial sedimentary sequences and three years of experience.

Demonstrated ability to formulate a research project and bring it through to publication; excellent organizational and communication skills; and ability to direct and supervise support staff. Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to communicate geological information with all individuals; ability to lift at least 50 pounds and walk over rough terrain; and ability to travel both in Indiana and out of state and present findings at conferences.
