"Insights into Suburbia"

January 7 through February 17, 2008
Robert L. Ringel Gallery, PMU

“Insights into Suburbia” showcases contemporary women artists whose works convey physical, social and cultural perceptions about contemporary suburbia.  Included are 55 paintings, drawings, photographs and mixed media works by 27 artists who explore the facts and myths of the suburban experience.

The subjects of the artworks are grouped into four main areas: the importance of social associations; physical layout and character of suburban living; emotional and intellectual voids and riches; and the newly acquired ills of suburbia.

This juried exhibition is co-sponsored by the National Association of Women Artists, the oldest professional women’s fine arts organization in the United States (founded in 1889), and the Opalka Gallery of The Sage Colleges, New York.  It was organized by Esther Thyssen, Associate Professor of Art History at The Sage Colleges, and Penny Dell, Exhibition Chair at NAWA.
