Flight Trails
March 10, 2003 through April 27, 2003
Stewart Center Gallery
Photo of Amelia Earhart with Plane An exhibition of Amelia Earhart memorabilia to celebrate the completion of renovations of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education Library and Stewart Center Gallery. It will publicly unveil the George Palmer Putnam Collection of Amelia Earhart Papers, featuring a recent gift to Purdue Libraries from Sally Putnam Chapman, granddaughter of Earhart's husband George Putnam.

With this gift, the Amelia Earhart collection in Purdue University Libraries Special Collections is now the largest, most comprehensive repository of materials in the world relating to the life, career and mysterious disappearance of the famous aviatrix.

Before her Purdue-funded Lockheed Electra disappered over the Pacific Ocean on her around-the-world flight in 1937, Earhart served as a consultant in the Department of the Study of Careers for Women at Purdue. The Flight Trails exhibit is part of Purdue's "100 Years of Flight" celebration, acknowledging the anniversary of the Wright Brothers' first manned, powered flight and the University's ongoing role in aviation and aerospace history.

Monday, March 10, 4:00 to 6:30 pm
Join us for a lecture by Sally Putnam Chapman in Fowler Hall, located in Stewart Center, immediately followed by a reception in the lobby adjacent to Fowler Hall and the Stewart Center Gallery.

All Galleries exhibitions and events are free and open to the public.
