Angela Petrie

Angela Petrie loves, loves, loves public relations and advertising and she's a huge fan of social media. With her eye on a career as a copywriter at an ad agency and eventual creative director, she is honing her skills working at Purdue's Center for Career Opportunities, where she designs, edits and manages the center's brand across platforms. She has five social media accounts, but names Twitter and Facebook as her favorites — now that's the way to spread the news.

How it all began

Angela's passion for publicity was born in her freshman year when she got involved in the American Advertising Federation's (AAF) National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). She was assigned to the digital team of the "ad agency" and says the experience opened her eyes to the significance, breadth and impact of digital media. She is vice president of the AAF student chapter and will serve as president spring semester.

Brand management

If Angela were a brand, she says she'd be organized, passionate, driven, results oriented, creative. In Myers-Briggs personality speak, she's an ENFP (extraversion, intuition, feeling, perception): outgoing, social and an explorer who enjoys challenges.

"My brand should give people a feeling of trust and comfort," she says, "because they know they can count on me and that I care about what I'm doing. I will make it happen, regardless of what obstacles get in the way."

Spreading the word

This high-energy, creative spirit volunteers with the Purdue Dance Marathon, is a tour guide for the Office of Admissions, and has been a team leader and move-in supervisor for Boiler Gold Rush. Not one to sit back and watch life pass her by, Angela likes to blog and has the perfect title for an autobiography: "Hold on ... I HAVE to tweet about this."

Kicking back

Given a free month, Angela says, she would travel to Australia. Given a free hour, she'd kick back and listen to her favorite Pandora stations playing Panic! At the Disco, Franz Ferdinand or Sleep Station while working on a design project, tweeting or dancing around with her best friends.
