Prospective Students

Faculty and staff members often receive inquiries from prospective students about Purdue University. Some inquiries come from acquaintances of staff members, but most of them come because the staff member’s name is seen in some publication. If the prospective student is an acquaintance, the staff member may wish to acknowledge receipt of the inquiry and indicate that it is being forwarded to the Office of Admissions for reply. If the prospective student is not an acquaintance, the inquiry may be forwarded to the Office of Admissions for reply without acknowledgment.

This handling of inquiries can save the staff member considerable time and ensure that the student receives appropriate Purdue information.

Graduate School inquiries should be forwarded to the graduate studies office in the department in which the prospective student is interested in enrolling. If the area of interest is not known, the inquiry should be forwarded to the Graduate School.

A comparison of students shows they are coming to college well prepared in the basic academic subjects: English, math, and lab science.

The Office of Admissions evaluates applicants holistically, basing admission decisions on a combination of high school rank in class, standardized test scores, high school subject matter expectations completed, grades in courses related to the college objective, the program/school/college the student wishes to enter, personal background and experiences, the time of year the student applies, and trends in achievement.

The Office of Admissions begins admitting students in mid September prior to the year of enrollment, and students are strongly encouraged to apply early in their senior year. Students applying to Purdue’s programs in flight, veterinary technology, prepharmacy, health sciences, and nursing should submit an application by the established deadlines.

Transfer students from other regionally accredited colleges and/or universities must be in good academic standing at the institution from which they wish to transfer and must meet current transfer requirements. For information regarding specific transfer requirements for individual schools/colleges and programs at Purdue, contact the Office of Admissions or go to the Web site, www.purdue.edu/futureboilermaker.
