Counseling and Student Services
Every student can seek help in solving a problem,
whether it's academic, personal, vocational, or financial.
To help new students adjust to the University in all
its different facets, various orientation programs are
organized and conducted at the beginning of the academic
year by the Office
of the Dean of Students, the Office
of Admissions, University
Residences, and the schools/colleges within the University.
Students can seek counseling services for financial,
career, academic, and/or personal counseling from a
variety of campus settings, including: each School/College
academic advising office, staff in University
Residences , Division
of Financial Aid, Office
of the Dean of Students, the Purdue
Student Health Center (PUSH) and its Counseling
and Psychological Services (CAPS) department, Purdue
Counseling and Guidance Center (housed in the
College of Education), the Center
for Career Opportunities, and the Purdue
Individual, Couple, and Family Therapy Clinic (housed
in the Department of Child Development and Family
Studies. These departments offer various publications
that contain specific information concerning
their facilities and services. Vocational interest
tests and personality inventories are offered
through the Testing Center in the Office
of the Dean of Students and at the Purdue
Counseling and Guidance Center.
Other special administrative support services for
students are provided by the Writing
Lab, the Liberal
Arts Learning Center, the Span Plan Adult Services
Program, and the Horizons Special Services Program
(a federally funded TRIO program). Special assistance
for minority students is available in the various school/college
academic advising offices and at the Black
Cultural Center, Latino
Cultural Center, and Native American
Cultural Center.
The Office of the Registrar in Hovde Hall provides
veteran certification, as well as other certification
services related to enrollment, course load, academic
history, and academic transcript services.
Each school/college and academic department assigns every
student an academic advisor to help him or her plan
a curriculum. Academic advisors also are prepared to
refer students with special problems to the appropriate
special service within the University. The Undergraduate
Studies Program offers academic advising for students
who are unsure of an appropriate academic major and/or
for students who seek to transfer to another academic
school/college. Comprehensive career planning for all students
is available through the Office
of the Dean of Students and the Center
for Career Opportunities.
Students who are unsure which campus resource may
be right for them should contact the Office
of the Dean of Students for referral options.
