The School of Veterinary Medicine operates a Veterinary
Teaching Hospital to provide practical, hands-on training
in an actual hospital, to provide consultation and
care for patients referred by veterinarians throughout
the Midwest, and to serve as an environment for clinical
research programs. Specialized medical and surgical
care is available for animals on a referral basis.
Routine care, including physical examinations, vaccinations,
preventive medical care, behavior training, and dental
prophylaxis is available through the Small Animal Community
Practice to residents of Tippecanoe County who do not
have a veterinarian. Emergency referral service is
available around the clock. Large animal emergency
cases do not need a referral. An ambulatory service
also makes farm calls for food animals and horses in
Tippecanoe and surrounding counties.
The hospital is staffed by veterinarians who are board
certified in various specialty areas. They are assisted
by residents and interns (graduate veterinarians) and
highly skilled technicians. Under close supervision,
senior veterinary medical and veterinary technology
students participate in the diagnosis, treatment, and
care of patients in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
