The primary mission of Transportation Service is to
meet the ground transportation needs of students, faculty,
and staff traveling throughout the United States and
Canada to approved University activities. Individual
and group travel is facilitated for local and extended
trips through the use of buses, vans, and passenger
cars. The department provides the skilled personnel,
gas, oil, and automotive supplies necessary for the
maintenance, repair, and daily operation of university
owned vehicles and miscellaneous equipment located
and operated on the West Lafayette campus and surrounding
areas.
Car and van rentals are provided to faculty, staff
and students for official university business with
proper approvals by renting departments. Drivers must
be a current university employee and must possess a
valid license issued by one of the 50 states, or Canada.
Non-university employees are approved by Risk Management.
Student drivers must hold a university appointment,
or be approved by Risk Management as well. Each person
driving a University-owned vehicle will be held responsible
for its satisfactory care and operation. Driving privileges
may be suspended if there is a record of carelessness,
disregard for traffic laws, or mistreatment of equipment.
For additional information, and to reserve a vehicle
call 494-2114.
Charter Bus Service is available for travel 7 days
a week, 24 hours per day. Larger groups should consider
the safety and convenience of Transportation Bus Service
to handle their travel needs. Trips of a few hours
or several days can be accommodated for faculty, staff,
and approved student organizations traveling to further
the mission of the University. Estimates will be provided
upon request, (494-6550).
The Service Department coordinates the fueling, washing,
routine maintenance and repairs of University owned
equipment, including police and fire vehicles, located
and operated on the West Lafayette campus and surrounding
areas. Full service car washing services are available
for university vehicles. Fuels, oil, and other automotive
supplies may be purchased from the service station.
