Staff Classifications and Position Descriptions
• For clerical/service and operations/technical assistant positions, the vice president for human resources-compensation, the respective human resources team (West Lafayette campus) or the regional campus human resources department determines a position´s staff classification, pay level/range, title, staff benefits eligibility and overtime compensation eligibility based upon a written position description, questionnaire and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
• Position classification determination is based upon the skill, effort, responsibility and working conditions of the position, and how the position compares to similar positions within the same organizational unit, in the college/school or campus-wide.
• Employees should discuss any questions they may have concerning their position classification with their immediate supervisor.
