CONSUMER AND FAMILY SCIENCES
Established as a department of home economics in 1905; became a school in 1926; named School of Consumer and Family Sciences in 1976.

Areas of specialization> Apparel design and technology; coordinated dietetic program; dietetics; early childhood education and exceptional needs; financial counseling and planning; food science; foods and nutrition in business; individual and family studies; nutrition, fitness, and health; nutrition science-premedicine; retail management; selling and sales management; youth, adult, and family services; family and consumer sciences education. Associate degree program: food service and lodging supervision.

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Established as a department of education in 1908; became a school in 1989. Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Indiana Professional Standards Board.

Areas of specialization> Department of Curriculum and Instruction — offers undergraduate and graduate-level instruction in teacher education, teaching methodology in specialty areas, educational technology, and supervised field experiences with students in schools. Department of Educational Studies — offers undergraduate and graduate-level instruction in special education, counseling and development, educational psychology, and educational leadership and cultural foundations.

Programs of study> Offers the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with majors in elementary education, social studies education, and special education. All other Purdue undergraduates who seek teacher preparation are enrolled in the school that provides their academic major.

Academic services> Each year, Purdue prepares hundreds of men and women to enter professional positions in education. The School of Education Academic Services offices in Beering Hall assist undergraduate and graduate students and alumni with programs, admissions, field experiences, and licensure.

ENGINEERING
First engineering degree granted in 1878. In the past three decades, the schools have annually ranked among the largest in the United States.

Engineering disciplines> Aeronautical and astronautical, agricultural and biological, biomedical, chemical, civil, construction engineering and management, electrical and computer, industrial, interdisciplinary, materials, mechanical, nuclear, and surveying.

Undergraduate programs> During the first year, students enroll in the Department of Freshman Engineering to use its counseling services and obtain a core foundation of science and engineering knowledge before choosing a specific discipline. Undergraduates not only have exceptional academic opportunities, but also enrich their education in communications, leadership, and teamwork skills by participating in more than 50 professional and honorary organizations.

Graduate programs> Graduate studies dovetail with internationally known, multidisciplinary research programs to provide an exciting environment for students. Outstanding laboratories and numerous collaborations with industry are hallmarks of these programs. MANAGEMENT
Established in 1958 through the merger of the Department of Industrial Management and Transportation and the Department of Economics.

Undergraduate programs> Industrial management (BSIM), a unique program of management, applied science, mathematics, and economics; accounting (BS), a specialized program in accounting combined with management and economics; management (BS), a coordinated program of management, economics, and liberal arts; and economics (BS), a flexible program of study in economics, management, and other social sciences jointly sponsored with the School of Liberal Arts.
Graduate programs/Krannert Graduate School of Management> Master of Science in Industrial Administration (MSIA), an 11-month general management program; Master of Business Administration (MBA), a two-year program offering concentrations in accounting, finance, management information systems, marketing, operations management, organizational behavior/human resource management, strategic management, and several interdisciplinary options: manufacturing management, international management, e-business and general management; and Master of Science (MS) in Human Resource Management, a two-year interdisciplinary program providing professional training for careers in human resource management; Executive Master's Program for practicing managers, consists of six two-week, on-campus sessions alternated with periods of off-campus study over a two-year period, assisted by interactive computer linkage to Krannert faculty, leads to awarding of MS degree. PhD programs in economics, management, and organizational behavior/human resource management.

PHARMACY, NURSING, AND HEALTH SCIENCES
Established in 1979 by merging the School of Pharmacy and Pharmacal Sciences, the Department of Nursing, and the School of Health Sciences under one dean.

Pharmacy and Pharmacal Sciences
Originally established as a two-year school of pharmacy in 1884. Currently offers programs leading to a BS (four years), and a PharmD. (advanced professional degree, six years). Graduate degrees (MS, PhD) with majors in the respective pharmacal sciences offered by all three departments.
Areas of specialization> Clinical pharmacy, industrial and physical pharmacy (includes biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, and nuclear pharmacy), medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology, and pharmacy administration.

Nursing
Established as a program in the University Extension Administration in 1963, as a department in the School of Technology in 1964, and as a school in the Schools of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Sciences in 1979. Offers baccalaureate, master's level, and continuing studies in nursing for basic RN and for advanced practice nurse certification. Currently developing a nursing doctoral program. Operates the Nursing Center for Family Health in the Johnson Hall of Nursing on Purdue's West Lafayette campus and the Family Health Clinic of Carroll County (FHCCC) in rural Delphi, Indiana.

Health Sciences
Established in 1979. Offers a group of programs directed toward people concerned with improving the population's health and environment. The school's primary purpose is to provide quality education and preparation of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Also provides course concentrations in premedicine, preoccupational therapy, prephysical therapy, and other areas of preallied health. Areas of undergraduate study include radiological health science, occupational health science, environmental health science, medical technology, and general health sciences. Areas of graduate study include health physics, medical physics, industrial hygiene, toxicology, and ergonomics.

Established in 1962. Home of nation's first computer sciences department.

Areas of study> Biological sciences — biochemistry; cell and developmental biology; ecology, evolutionary, and population biology; ecology, evolutionary, and population biology/environmental science option; general biology; genetic biology; microbiology; molecular biology; neurobiology; animal physiology; plant sciences. Physics — general and applied, physics and materials science, health physics. Statistics. Founded in 1964 to provide appropriate career educational opportunities to students whose technological interests and aptitudes are application-oriented.

Areas of study> Avaiation technology — aeronautical technology, aviation management and professional flight technology. Building construction management. Computer graphics technology — construction graphics communication, interactive multimedia development, computer-aided design, and computer animation. Computer integrated manufacturing technology. Computer technology — database management, software development, systems integration, and telecommunications and networking technology. Electrical engineering technology — computer engineering technology. Industrial technology — industrial distribution, technology education. Mechanical engineering technology. Organizational leadership and supervision.

VETERINARY MEDICINE
Opened in 1959. Offers a four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a two-year associate degree and a four-year baccalaureate degree in veterinary technology. Graduate programs in basic medical sciences, veterinary clinical sciences, and veterinary pathobiology. Residency programs in veterinary pathobiology, and intern and residency programs in veterinary clinical sciences, with specialized training in ophthalmology, theriogenology (reproduction), surgery, internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, production medicine, and diagnostic imaging. Opportunities also exist for ECGVG candidates to complete step 4 as required by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Cooperates with Indiana University School of Medicine in offering first and second years of medicine on West Lafayette campus. Active continuing education programs for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
