I grew up in Plymouth, Indiana, which is a small town in north central Indiana and is home of the Blueberry Festival.  The Blueberry Festival is held every Labor Day weekend, and even though I don’t like blueberries, I love going to see the crafts, eat fried candy, and ride in the Blueberry Bicycle Cruise.

I attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana where I double majored in history and political science, and I completed a minor in public relations.  I then earned a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University South Bend.

For over 3.5 years, I worked as the Associate Director of Career Services for the Ivy Tech Community College campuses of Michigan City and Valparaiso in Indiana.  One of my responsibilities was helping students and graduates to discover their passions and find employment.  I joined the Exploratory Studies staff in July 2015, and I am excited to continue helping students to pursue their dreams!

Advice for the Future Boilermaker

Get involved!  Make new friends!  Participate!

I was very shy growing up, but when I started college, I discovered that participation is vital!  Talking in class helps you become more comfortable speaking in front of others and helps you to not be afraid to share your thoughts and ideas.  This will give you great practice for your future job!  Not only should you try to participate more in class, but I also recommend that you join groups and organizations.  Besides being fun, these activities will also help you discover more about yourself.  You can discover your hidden passions and skills, as well as make new friends!

Participate in class, and participate in life.  Take advantage of all of these amazing opportunities (while also making time for your classwork!).

Fun Facts

-          I love ballroom dancing – my favorite dance is the rumba.  I discovered ballroom dancing in college, which is why my advice to you is to get involved during college!  I continue to dance socially and compete.

-          I love to travel and see new places.  I’ve been to China and several countries in Europe, as well as many places in the U.S.

-          I love cake, but I dislike cooking and baking.

-          Yes I’m tall (5’10’’) but no, I’ve never played basketball.  I did play softball growing up; I usually played right field, second base, or catcher.
