Requirements: The Departments of Computer Science at Purdue University invites applications for tenure track faculty positions in the area of computational science and engineering, and high-performance computing and systems, beginning August 2010. We are looking for candidates with a demonstrable research record in these areas and a commitment to multidisciplinary research. Up to three positions at the Assistant Professor rank are available. A joint appointment with another department within the college of Science or the College of Engineering is likely for candidates with interdisciplinary research interests.
Purdue faculty have had a pioneering role in computational science and engineering research and education, and are currently involved in several large-scale computing projects: e.g., the CSCAPES Institute funded by the Department of Energy, and the PRISM project funded by the National Nuclear Safety Administration. The computing Research Institute facilitates collaborations in high-performance computing by bringing computational scientists and domain scientists together. Interdisciplinary graduate programs in computational Science and Engineering, and computational Life Sciences help train graduate students across departmental boundaries.
The Department of Computer Science offers a stimulating and nurturing academic environment. Forty-four faculty members direct research programs in areas including bioinformatics, computational science and engineering, databases, machine learning, networking, programming languages, security, software engineering, systems, theory, and visualization. Requirements: The Department of Biological Sciences, Purdue University, invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Structural Biology associated with the Lucille P. Markey Center for Structural Biology (http://www-structure.bio.purdue.edu/). We particularly interested in applicants with programs in structural biology of viruses, membrane proteins and large cellular complexes. Purdue University and the department (http://www.bio.purdue.edu/) are committed to expanding structural biology research utilizing new laboratories in Hockmeyer Hall of Structural Biology, completed in the fall of 2009. The successful candidate will have available outstanding, staffed facilities for X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, and cryoelectron microscopy/electron tomography, and will interact with colleagues in many disciplines and interdisciplinary centers on campus. | Faculty Position in Planetary Sciences (002252-2009) |

Requirements: Purdue University has launched a strong new initiative in Planetary Sciences. Jay Melosh has joined the Purdue Faculty and, together with Andy Freed, Marc Caffee and Brenda Beitler Bowen, has a mandate to expand Planetary Sciences by adding two more faculty and several postdocs over the next two years. This year we seek a broadly based individual for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending upon the candidate’s experience. Candidates are expected to develop a vigorous research program, obtain external funding, supervise graduate students, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will be an outstanding researcher with potential for excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. We seek someone who will compliment our existing strengths in modeling and isotopic cosmochemistry. We especially seek someone with expertise in Planetary Remote Sensing. This position would be associated with the Purdue Rare Isotope Measurement Laboratory (PRIME Lab). This is a national facility which supports researchers from Purdue and from around the world in studies of cosmogenic (extra-terrestrial and terrestrial) nuclides and biomedical applications of rare isotopes. The Department of Physics at Purdue University seeks outstanding candidates for Assistant Professor in theoretical biological physics to further strengthen this new departmental growth area. We seek applicants with interests in forefront fields of research and in newly emerging areas, such as theoretical modeling of single biomolecule imaging, and other areas that would complement existing biological physics research within the Department and across the College of Science. Candidates of exceptional merit will also be considered for Associate and Full Professor levels.
Current departmental research includes electronic structure methods for metal active sites in proteins, computational studies of macromolecular dynamics, single molecule imaging of membrane protein complexes, ultra-fast optical probes of photosynthetic complexes, and synchrotron Mössbauer studies of heme protein dynamics. The Department of Physics at Purdue University (http://www.physics.purdue.edu) seeks applications for a Tenure-Track Faculty position in Experimental High Energy Nuclear Physics. The Purdue Physics Department has had a long standing interest in exploring the phase diagram of nuclear matter. Currently the Experimental High Energy Nuclear Physics group consists of three Physics Faculty, two Senior Research Scientists, one Research Associate, and Graduate Research Students. The department has recently strengthened the nuclear physics effort with the appointment of a RIKEN-BNL fellow in Theoretical Nuclear Physics. The experimental group has played a major role in the construction and operation of the Solenoidal Tracker (STAR) at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The group has played a leading role in the physics of bulk properties, jet quenching, multi-particle correlations, and long range forward-backward multiplicity correlations in relativistic heavy-ion collisions using the STAR detector. The group has joined the ALICE-USA collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and is interested in extending the program to the higher energy proton-proton and heavy-icon collisions using the ALICE detector. The successful candidate is expected to develop vigorous research programs strengthening the existing efforts and opening new frontiers.
Requirements: Candidates are expected to develop vigorous research programs, supervise graduate students, and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Experimental High Energy Nuclear Physics or a closely related field, and outstanding record of research accomplishments, and evidence of potential excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
