| Specialty Crops Genetics and Breeding Assistant or Associate Professor (002277-2009) |

Requirements: The College of Agriculture, Purdue University, is seeking an academic year, tenure-track assistant or associate professor in the genetics and breeding of specialty crops. The successful candidate will utilize genetic diversity and the tools of modern genetics to establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program. Research is the primary scholarly focus of the appointment. In addition, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral research associates is expected. The faculty hire will interact with others working on specialty crops and is expected to develop collaborative multidisciplinary programs.
The position is part of a cluster-hire in the College involving diverse research disciplines and approaches relevant to specialty (vegetable, fruit, and/or ornamental) crops. The position is advertised jointly between the Departments of botany& plant Pathology and horticulture & Landscape Architecture, and this expanded search will consider hiring at either the assistant or associate professor level. Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in plant genetics, plant breeding, or related plant-science discipline. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Post-doctoral or equivalent professional experience is highly desirable, as is ability to collaborate and develop multidisciplinary tea approaches to solve research problems. Experience in contemporary technologies to enhance genetics and selection programs, phenotypic plant selection, statistical genetics, and/ or bioinformatics, will be considered advantageous.
Compensation: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with professional experience. | Turfgrass Extension Specialist (002257-2009) |

Requirements: The position is a tenure-track faculty appointment focusing on turfgrass Extension education for the turfgrass industry with additional responsibilities in applied research and undergraduate education for the Turf Science degree option. The successful applicant will join a multi-departmental team dedicated to maintaining a strong Turf Science program at Purdue University. This individual will develop an internationally recognized Extension/research program, attract extramural funding to support the program and demonstrate scholarly accomplishment. The primary responsibilities of this position are in the areas of turfgrass management Extension and applied research. The successful individual will provide leadership for a multidisciplinary and financially sustainable Extension program focused on the regional turfgrass industry. This person will develop and disseminate educational information using appropriate technologies for a range of stakeholders including: golf course and athletic turf managers, lawn care professionals, sod growers, and county Extension field staff. Additionally this person will organize continuing education events for industry professional such as in Indiana Green Expo, turfgrass field day, short-courses, seminars and webinars. The selected individual will be expected to develop a complementary and innovative applied research program that addresses relevant issues affecting both cool and warm-season turfgrass species used in recreational and urban/residential environments. The person will assume a leadership position in the Midwest Regional Turf Foundation, which actively supports turfgrass research and Turf Science educational efforts at Purdue University. Undergraduate education responsibilities include teaching one intermediate/advanced course on turf science annually and advising and counseling students. Graduate student supervision and professional collaboration with other Purdue University faculty and staff is expected.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in Crop Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Ecology or relate disciplines with a demonstrated interest in turfgrass production systems. The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated collaborative Extension and research skills. Post-doctoral, classroom teaching and international experiences are desirable. Assistant Professor in Animal Behavior and Well-Being (002247-2009)

Requirements: A tenure-track position is available in the Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University with emphasis in Animal Behavior and Well-Being. The successful candidate will establish a scholarly, externally-funded extension program with an international reputation and will teach and advise both undergraduate and graduate students. The ability to interface animal well-being research with the evolving animal management recommendations in conjunction with the USDA-ARS Livestock Behavior Research Unit and School of Veterinary Medicine is essential. The incumbent will provide leadership for the Center for Food Animal Well-Being, whose mission is to foster interdisciplinary research, extension, and teaching in animal well-being. The candidate will teach courses in animal behavior, animal welfare and contemporary issues. The successful individual will also be expected to establish an active relationship with other extension faculty and county-based Extension Educators, leaders in animal agriculture and other providing information related to animal welfare and animal well-being.
Qualifications: Qualifications include a Ph.D. degree, or equivalent, in animal sciences, animal behavior/well-being, or related area plus successful experience in teaching, extension, and(or) research. A solid understanding of domestic animal behavior and management, current issues in animal welfare policy and laws with a state, national, and international perspective is required. Evidence of collaborative efforts and an ability to effectively interact in diverse cultural environments with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population, media, government agencies, animal industries, commodity groups, and the general public are essential. Requirements: The Department Botany and Plant Pathology at Purdue University are seeking applicants for tenure-track faculty position with an academic year appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Research Responsibilities: Research emphasis will be on soil borne pathogens and diseases of agronomic crops, to further strengthen a comprehensive plant pathology program. Requirements: The Department of Agricultural Economics is seeking a candidate to develop an internationally recognized program of scholarly outreach and teaching, based on research that addresses the managerial decisions facing agribusiness and food firms. The person filling this position will be expected to develop a highly visible research based outreach program, including acquisition of external funding and development on innovative educational programs designed to meet the needs of regional, national, and international food and agribusiness organizations delivered through the nationally recognized Center for Food and Agricultural Business (CAB). In addition, the position is expected to disseminate research results through peer reviewed journals, Extension publication outlets, popular trade and press venues. The Department has a rich tradition of award winning teachers and is experiencing an increasing enrollment in its majors and demand of its agribusiness courses. As such, the person in this position would also be expected to contribute to an excellent program in classroom instruction in the undergraduate and/or graduate programs of the Department. The Department currently has a very strong core group of professional who focus on food and agribusiness management in their teaching, research, and outreach efforts. Requirements: The Department of Agricultural Economics is seeking a candidate to enhance its strong reputation in the related areas of energy economics, climate change, biofuels, and renewable energy. The successful candidate will be well trained in theory and analytical/empirical tools applicable to energy and climate change issues. There are strong opportunities for collaboration with biological and physical scientists and engineers across the Purdue campus, and the person will be expected to develop these collaborations. | Tenure – track teaching and research faculty position in food microbiology. (002220-2009) |

Requirements: The successful applicant will provide leadership and scholarship in food microbiology teaching and research, with and expectation of external funding in both areas. Emphasis will be on the creation of innovative approaches to food microbiology teaching and development of a nationally recognized, high-impact education program with clear scholarship. The successful candidate is expected to teach core undergraduate courses in food microbiology (lecture and laboratory) and food plant sanitation, and graduate-level courses as needed. Also expected is academic advising of undergraduate students, assistance in special recruiting efforts, and national leadership in curriculum and course development. Teaching responsibilities are to be complemented by collaborative and interdisciplinary food microbiology research related to bacteriology, virology and/or mycology. The successful candidate will be expected to interact with faculty in food science and other departments and centers on campus, secure external research funds, advise graduate and undergraduate research students, and engage in national and international activities.
Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. in food science with emphasis in food microbiology. Previous academic experience (post doc, professorate) and food industry experience are highly desirable. Requirements: Purdue University’s nationally and internationally recognized Agronomy Department is seeking a dynamic head with a broad vision for plant, Soil, and environmental sciences. The Department: The Agronomy Department is one of the largest and most diverse departments in the College of Agriculture, with research spanning basic to applied topics in soils, crops, environmental, and earth system sciences. The department has 43 faculty and 70 professional, clerical, and technical staff. Undergraduates (170 students) choose from eight plans of study within the department. An additional 60 undergraduates are enrolled in the interdisciplinary program in natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, which is currently directed by an Agronomy faculty member. Graduate research programs (70 students) include: plant genetics and breeding, plant biology, soil and earth system sciences, turf science and cropping systems. Faculty participate in interdisciplinary programs in biochemistry and molecular biology , genetics, geographic information systems and remote sensing, plant physiology, water resources, and in several interdisciplinary research/learning centers across the campus. The department has a productive research partnership with USDA/ARS in both crops and soils. Extension education serves crops, soils, and environmental clientele across Indiana and the nation. The department is committed to international dimensions of the discipline and has historically been engaged in global education and research.
The department has excellent office/laboratory/greenhouse space and field research capabilities near campus and at locations across the state. The department’s annual budget is approximately $12 million, with more than half of this from extramural sources. The department just completed a CSREES review in February and is poised to develop new programs to address larger interdisciplinary societal issues. Requirements: The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized scholarly research program, interact with scientifically diverse faculty across campus, and demonstrate excellence in teaching. This is a joint position between the Department of Youth Development and Agricultural Education in the College of Agriculture and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education.
Requirements: The successful candidate will serve as a faculty member in the Department of Youth and Development and Agricultural Education. Responsibilities include: developing a strong, internationally recognized, externally funded research program to support K-12 engagement through agricultural education; developing strategies to broaden access to agricultural education using inclusive methodologies and innovative technologies to reach new audiences; developing an innovative teaching program for undergraduate and graduate students in the area of program planning and experiential learning for youth; teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students; participate in cross-disciplinary research and building collaborations within the university system and with partners interested in life science and K-12 engagement.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Agricultural Education or related discipline and a minimum of three years successful teaching experience in secondary education are required. The successful candidate must be able to conduct and publish high-quality research, be able to work effectively in team environment, and have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Assistant Professor of Agricultural Systems Management (002062-2008)

Requirements: Responsibilities include teaching and research benefiting agriculture in general and Indiana agriculture specifically, and developing a strong, externally funded program resulting in internationally recognized, high impact scholarship. The candidate will help develop an innovative teaching program for undergraduates and graduates. Possible areas of specialization include: sensors and controls for improving production of row-crop, biomass, and/or horticultural crops; integration of remote sensing and spatial data with other farm management tools; implement automation and control; material application technologies; development of protocols to help ensure optimal operational efficiency during production, transport, storage, and processing; and the application of information technology for machine and facilities optimization.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, or a related discipline. Requirements: Develop highly competitive and innovative research program on biology and management of cockroaches and other non-social structural pests. Plan, organize, conduct, analyze and report lab and field tests of chemical and non-chemical technologies, and evaluate IPM programs. Secure grants, publish, and supervise graduate students.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in entomology or related science. Excellent interpersonal skills; oral and written communications are essential. Supervisory experience is highly desirable. A strong background in experimental design and statistical analysis is more important than extensive knowledge or experience in insect biology or urban pest management.

The Landscape Architecture Program in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Purdue University, West Lafayette campus, seeks to fill a ten-month, tenure track faculty position available at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. The Landscape Architecture Program at Purdue University is a five-year professionally accredited undergraduate program leading to a B.S.L.A. degree.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a program of innovative and engaging classroom and studio teaching in fundamental aspects of landscape architecture. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate course in landscape architecture. Productive involvement in a program of academic scholarship and/or creative endeavor in contemporary issues and emerging practice is also expected. Participation in the application and scholarship of community engagement and service is desired. The individual also will be expected to be instrumental in the development of an emerging graduate program. The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Purdue University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level. This is an academic year position with a primary research appointment and a secondary teaching appointment.
Responsibilities: We seek outstanding candidates applying a systems approach to understanding complex problems in plant biology. All areas of plant systems biology will be considered, including the modeling of genetic networks affecting plant phenotype, how genotype and environment impact phenotype, effects of ecosystem changes on plant diversity and sustainability, the complexity of cellular and physiological processes, and plant interactions with other organisms. Candidates who use mathematical and computational approaches to address biological questions will be of particular interest.
