Associate Dean or Director for Engagement (002722-2012)

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Associate Dean or Director for Engagement in the College of Technology at Purdue University’s main campus.  The Associate Dean/Director will provide leadership in strategic and tactical engagement efforts in West Lafayette and Statewide Technology locations, and, will coordinate the College of Technology’s role in serving the Land Grant mission of the university by taking the lead role for engagement with business and industry across the State of Indiana.

The College of Technology has a current undergraduate enrollment of 3,200, a graduate enrollment of 450, and 140 full-time faculty.  The College also serves 1,200 students through the Statewide Technology System.  Information about the College of Technology can be found at http://www.tech.purdue.edu/.

Responsibilities: The Associate Dean/Director will serve as a senior member of the Dean’s leadership team and will report directly to the Dean of the college.  He/she will work with Purdue’s Offices of Engagement and Governmental Relations, representing the College, in helping coordinate faculty engagement efforts across the College including industry-funded research, faculty and staff participation in the Technical Assistance Program, Purdue’s Office of Engagement, working with Ivy Tech and Vincennes University, the Purdue Enterprise Center (PEC), intern/coop programs, ProSTAR and other priorities established by the Dean.  Engagement with these various constituents will occur at the local, state, and national levels.

Candidates are sought whose qualifications and experience assure effective leadership in guiding the growth and development of engagement.  Excellent administration, communication, and organizational skills will be essential attributes for success as the Associate Dean/Director.

Qualifications: Qualifications for rank as Associate Dean include an earned doctorate from an accredited institution, a strong record of published scholarship, undergraduate and graduate teaching experience, and familiarity with business and industry.  Candidates should be able to work across academic units and possess a clear understanding of the mission of a land grant institution.  The successful candidate should qualify for faculty rank as a full professor in one of the academic areas within the college.  The Associate Dean is an academic year appointment with summer support, 75% functioning as the Associate Dean for Engagement, and 25% assignment in a College of Technology academic department. 

Qualifications for rank as Director include a minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited institution.  Substantial business and industry experience required with evidence of collaborative relationships across organizational entities.  Evidence of the impact of the candidate’s work in Engagement would be beneficial.  Candidates should be able to work across academic units and possess a clear understanding of the mission of a land grant institution.  The Director is a full-time fiscal year appointment.
