Assistant/Associate Faculty Position (002698-2012)
The Department of Consumer Science invites applications from candidates conducting research in the areas of data mining and data visual representation as part of a University wide cluster hire in chronic disease/public health. The cluster hire includes eight tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level or higher, see below for more information.
Responsibilities: The candidate is expected to participate in ongoing and future initiatives in public health on campus (http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/ClusterHireinPublicHealth). This position is in a Department where the focus is on consumer behavior and consumer economics. Research areas that will be considered for this position include demographics, application of analytics and visualization to very large health-related data sets to model health behaviors for disease prevention, forecasting, and other consumer behavior and economic issues related to disease and public health. The candidate will be expected to develop a collaborative internationally-recognized research program, train graduate students, demonstrate excellence in teaching, and contribute to the departmental mission.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in one of the core disciplines of public health with particular emphasis on consumer behavior and consumer economics, including areas in demographics, application of analytics and visualization to very large health-related data sets to model health behaviors for disease prevention, forecasting, and other consumer behavior and economic issues related to disease and public health or related field of interest. Also applicant must have a publication record that demonstrates past accomplishment and future potential. Evidence for grantsmanship and teaching ability preferred. The applicant should want to write books, appear in public media, and use social media to try to inform and infuse policy and public awareness as they pursue basic and applied research.
