Assistant Professor of Bands (002666-2012)

Position Available: Assistant Professor of University Bands, with responsibilities as the associate director of the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band, assistant director of a pep band and conductor of the Purdue Concert Band. The position is a tenure0track, twelve-month full-time appointment.

Responsibilities: Serve as the Associate Director of the “All-American” Marching Band with shared responsibilities for coordination of instruction. This includes planning and carrying out of the operational aspects of the “All-American” Marching Band, including rehearsal planning and marching instruction. Serve also as assistant director for the men’s basketball pep-band and conductor of the Purdue Concert Band. Play a significant role in student recruitment and alumni outreach. Supervise band auxiliary units and work with auxiliary directors to coordinate all activities. Supervise and coordinate activities involving the graduate teaching assistant. Organize Purdue Band Day, Purdue’s involvement in the Indianapolis 500.

Qualifications: Masters Degree required. Minimum of three years of public school and/or college teaching experience required. Successful experience coordinating and teaching marching bands, including drill writing, is also required. Large ensemble conducting and rehearsal experience is essential. Applicant should possess ability to recruit, organize and coordinate pep bands in the NCAA Division I environment. The ability to effectively communicate with students, peers, and alumni is an important aspect of this position.

Salary: Competitive, based upon academic background and professional experience.
