Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging - Assistant Professor (002661-2012)
Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for 2 full-time (12 month) clinical or tenure track faculty positions in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging; one at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level and one at the Assistant Professor level.
State of the art equipment is available on site and includes digital radiography (Eklin DR & Fuji DR, CR), Phillips iU22 ultrasound, GE QXI Lightspeed 4 slice CT scanner with equine imaging capabilities, fluoroscopy, and a MiE Scintron equine nuclear scintigraphy scanner with various collimators. The MRI Scanner is a 1.5T GE LXi used for small animal and equine patients. The facility also offers on-site Varian Clinac 6 EX radiation therapy with IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy). PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development. A formal faculty mentoring program is in place.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will actively participate in the learning, discovery and engagement activities of the PVM and VCS department. These activities include: Learning: Participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM and veterinary technology curriculum; clinical teaching in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH); participation in the training of house officers. Clinical: Providing clinical service to patients admitted to the VTH (typically 30-50% time commitment for tenure track faculty, 70% time commitment for clinical track faculty); instructing and supervising veterinary students, veterinary technician students, and house officers; building strong relationships with referring veterinarians. Discovery (tenure track position): Development of an independent research program, with preference for research that complements and builds on current faculty interests and strengths (www.vet.purdue.edu/vcs/); participation in university-wide graduate programs (MS and PhD). Service: Participation in committee work, professional organizations and community service, delivery of continuing education programs, and other appropriate activities. Commitment to the PVM missions of discovery, learning, and engagement and the support of the PVM strategic plan (http://www.vet.purdue.edu/strategic_plan/StrategicPlan2008-2014.pdf) are essential. The successful candidate is expected to promote an atmosphere of cultural diversity in the College.
Qualifications: Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree and board certification or board eligibility by the American College of Veterinary Radiology or European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. Candidates should have a sincere interest in providing outstanding clinical service, teaching, and building a collaborative or independent research program. Candidates must also possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills, and be able to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and house officers to effectively engage students in clinical and discovery activities. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check will be required for employment in this position.
