Faculty Search and Screen Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I find out if I need to process my search through the Office of Institutional Equity?

Refer to the Faculty Search and Screen Procedures Manual under "Search Process." This manual is a comprehensive guide for conducting a faculty search.

  2. How do I obtain additional forms for our faculty search?

To download or print the forms you require, visit the OIE Forms page. You can print the forms at any time. Please make sure you add the position's Posting Number to all forms.

  3. Our department is interested in using applicant software to conduct our faculty search/ Does Purdue offer any options?

The University uses Taleo, a web-based applicant tracking system that is designed to be user-friendly, for all staff positions. Taleo is available for faculty positions upon request. To learn more about using Taleo for your search, please review our document on Taleo for Faculty Searches or contact the Office of Institutional Equity.

  4. What elements need to be included in my advertising text?

Advertising text must include the following elements:

    • Rank
    • Job duties
    • Qualifications, including degree requirement
    • "Teaching" must be in the description (pursuant to Department of Labor requirements for hiring international applicants)
    • Review date

  5. Can we send applicants the Applicant Self-Identification Form electronically?

The Office of Institutional Equity has recently adopted an electronic process for applicants to submit voluntary self-identification information. After a Position Announcement Authorization Form (PAA) is approved by our office, we create a web-based survey for each position and email the contact person the link to the survey that the search committee or contact person should send to all applicants in lieu of the paper mailings previously used. The electronic process should increase responsiveness and provide search committees with more robust data concerning their applicant pools and advertising sources.
