Endowed Professorship in Cancer Therapeutics (002753-2012)

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology (www.mcmp.purdue.edu) and the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research at Purdue University (http://www.cancerresearch.purdue.edu/) invite applications from individuals with a distinguished record of accomplishment to fill and endowed chair in Cancer Therapeutics at the rank of Full Professor. We are particularly interested in candidates who apply techniques and approaches emerging from either cutting-edge synthetic chemistry discoveries or the chemistry-biology interface to the discovery of new cancer therapies.

The Department offers a unique multidisciplinary environment in which chemistry and biology are applied to the improvement of human health, with particular strengths in cancer drug discovery. The Purdue University Center for Cancer Research is one of only seven NCI-designated Cancer Centers nationwide focused exclusively on basic and translational research. It maintains strong programs in drug delivery and molecular sensing, medicinal chemistry, chemical and structural biology, and cell growth and differentiation. Discovery Park at Purdue University (www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/) offers a unique environment for collaborative interdisciplinary research. The Bindley Bioscience and Birck Nanotechnology Centers and the newly founded Purdue Drug Discovery Institute offer opportunities for collaborations on drug targets and application of nanotechnology to therapeutics. The HIH-funded Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (http://indianactsi.org/) provides a nexus for translational research in therapeutics, bringing together basic and clinical research efforts from Purdue, Notre Dame, and Indiana University.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or related scientific field and a significant record of independent scientific accomplishments. The successful candidate will be expected to possess and maintain a strong extramurally-funded research program. Commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is also required.

APPLICATIONS: Applicants should send a curriculum vita, a brief summary of research accomplishment and of ongoing research via email to CancerThera@purdue.edu. Applications will be reviewed beginning October 10, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled.

A background check will be required for employment in this position.
