Department Head, Building Construction Management (002820-2013)
The College of Technology invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Head, Building Construction Management Technology (BCM). The department has been fully accredited by the American Council on Construction Education (ACCE) since 1979. We have approximately 400 undergraduate students, 40 graduate students, with 15 full-time faculty members. The department is located in a modern facility which includes laboratories that are well equipped with up-to-date equipment for teaching surveying, materials, estimating, construction methods and project management. The department emphasis is on excellence in undergraduate construction education and an industry supported graduate program. Students are prepared to work in all areas of construction and can specialize in mechanical, electrical, residential, or in the emerging areas of demolition/reconstruction/restoration and health care construction. The faculty includes past officers of the Associated Schools of Construction, officers and administrators in Sigma Lambda Chi (the International Honor Society for Construction Education) and several winners of national excellence in teaching awards. Qualifications: Candidates must have relevant experience in construction management education as well as significant domestic construction industry experience. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to students and student learning at the collegiate level. The successful candidate will demonstrate interpersonal and intrapersonal skills with regards to team building and responsible delegation. Qualified candidates must have proven skills as an effective and visionary leader with competencies in administration, fiscal management, facilitation of grantsmanship, and development. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to lead in the areas of learning, engagement and discovery according to the department's strategic plan. A proven record of management experience with an understanding of interaction with diverse groups of internal and external constituents is highly desirable. Qualified candidates must be nationally/internationally recognized for scholarly achievement, have achieved a Ph.D. degree (preferred in a construction related field) and have the qualifications for appointment as a full professor. The Department Head reports to the Dean of the College of Technology and is responsible for administrative, budgetary, and personnel decisions within the department and potential teaching of courses.
