Assistant Professor in Public Health and Physical Activity (002940-2013)

The Department of Health & Kinesiology at Purdue University seeks applications for a tenure track position in the area of public/population health, physical activity, and chronic disease prevention to begin fall 2014.

Qualifications: A doctoral degree in Public Health or related field is required; a Masters in Public Health and post-doctoral experience are preferred. A substantive independent line of research with potential for attracting extramural funding is expected. Additional expectations include teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs and advising of graduate students. There are ample opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations within the department, the College of Health and Human Sciences, and campus-wide emphasis areas (e.g. obesity, cancer, gerontology, children/adolescents, disease prevention, imaging, engineering). Professional collaborative opportunities and pilot funding also exist within the NIH-supported Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (www.indianactsi.org); the A.H. Ismail Center for Health, Exercise, and Nutrition (http://www.purdue.edu/hhs/hk/ismail/); Discovery Park (http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/), the Cooperative Extension Programs of Health and Human Sciences (http://www.purdue.edu/hhs/extension/); and over 100 Centers at Purdue (http://dagon.admin.purdue.edu/cgi-bin/ci.cgi).

The Department of Health & Kinesiology is one of nine units in the College of Health & Human Sciences and is home to over 700 undergraduate students and 70 graduate students. Purdue is consistently ranked among the leading research institutions in the country and has the second largest international student population among U.S. public universities.
