Purdue University invites nominations and applications for the position of Head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy to start August 2015. The Department seeks a dynamic leader with creative vision and an outstanding record of research accomplishments.
The Department is undergoing a period of exciting development. Departmental strengths include accelerator mass spectrometry; astrophysics; atomic, molecular, and optical physics; biological physics; condensed matter physics; geophysics, high energy physics; nuclear physics; physics education, and planetary physics. The Department is comprised of over 50 faculty members along with about 150 graduate students and 200 undergraduate physics majors. Departmental faculty are involved in University-wide multidisciplinary research through Discovery Park, a group of interdisciplinary research centers www.discoverypark.purdue.edu and the College of Science www.science.purdue.edu.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of scholarly achievement commensurate with the rank of full professor at Purdue, exceptional and proven leadership abilities, a vision of the role of the department in the university, state, and nation, a well-funded research program, and a commitment to excellence in education, engagement, and diversity. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field.
