Assistant Professor-Stable Isotope Geochemistry (002953-2013)

The Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS), within the College of Science, Purdue University, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of stable isotope geochemistry to begin August, 2014.  To complement and expand existing EAPS strengths in stable isotope biogeochemistry and atmospheric chemistry, meteorology, climate science, and geodynamics, we seek candidates applying stable isotope measurements to investigate the links between large-scale processes and phenomena occurring or observed at various scales, including but not limited to land/atmosphere exchange of water, carbon, sediment, and nutrients.

Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates whose research involves novel approaches to working across scales (both temporal and spatial) and/or emphasizes the integration of observations and models with applications in the field of biogeochemistry, atmospheric chemistry, hydrology, ecology, and climate science.  Candidates must have completed the Ph.D. in Geological Sciences, Ecological Sciences or related field at the time of employment.

Requirements: The appointee is expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded, internationally recognized research program and to teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. At Purdue, the candidate will find complimentary and supportive colleagues whose research and teaching endeavors are nurtured and promoted among many centers including those within Purdue’s Discovery Park Global Sustainability Institute (http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/sustainability/).

Applications: Applications should include curriculum vitae, a statement of research and teaching goals and plan, contact information of three individuals who can provide letters of reference, and three selected reprints and be submitted electronically at https://hiring.science.purdue.edu. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2013, and continue until the position is filled. Questions should be addressed to search committee chair Dr. Timothy Filley (filley@purdue.edu). A background check is required for employment in this position. Additional information on EAPS can be found at http://www.eaps.purdue.edu.
