Faculty Opening in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy Associate Professor/Assistant Professor (002952-2013)

The College of Pharmacy at Purdue University is seeking applications to fill a faculty position in the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy in the general area of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The position is for a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor. The faculty member is expected to establish an externally funded research program and will teach courses in the undergraduate, graduate and professional (Pharm. D.) programs.  It is expected that the individual will collaborate on various research activities within the department and in multidisciplinary, multi-institutional research throughout the university.  This is a nine-month (academic year) appointment.

The candidate should have expertise in fundamental and applied research related to the development, design, analysis and manufacturing of pharmaceutical products.  Representative areas of interest include:

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing of small and/or large molecules
  • Fundamentals of unit operations with a focus on API and dosage form manufacturing
  • Process Analytical Technology, advanced methods of analysis, modeling and simulation of pharmaceutical processes, and Quality by Design applied to manufacturing processes
  • Appreciation of biopharmaceutics for the development of in vitro-in vivo relationships and other molecular-based principles in formulation design and manufacturing
  • Enabling technologies, including continuous manufacturing, for drug product development
  • Particle engineering, production and pharmaceutical materials science

Purdue University, a public land-grant university, is located in West Lafayette, Indiana, just 65 miles north of Indianapolis and 2.5 hours from Chicago. The Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy encompasses multidisciplinary research and teaching in the areas of drug development, biotechnology, pharmacokinetics, drug delivery systems and manufacturing technologies.

Qualifications: The candidate must hold a PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline which would include pharmaceutical sciences, engineering or chemistry, have an outstanding academic record, an exceptional potential for world-class research and a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education. Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience is preferred but not required.
