Learning communities
Andrew Koch, Learning Communities, Access and Retetion Programs Director

More than 20 learning communities at Purdue help first-year students adjust to college by grouping them together in classes and residence halls based on similar majors or academic interests. These support systems help to improve grades and retention rates. Some of the recently established learning communities include

  • Bonding — a community for students interested in the application of science in a diverse world
  • Ideas — a community for students who want to explore the application of engineering in a diverse society
  • Marketplace 2020 — a learning community for students from consumer and family sciences interested in the changing marketplace
  • Entrepreneurial Learning Community — an interdisciplinary learning community for students interested in starting their own companies

Many of the learning communities engage in service projects in the community throughout the academic year.
