Government & Policy
Our government and policy outreach is a key piece of our engagement efforts. We want to inform public policy debates and bring Purdue resources and discoveries to bear in informing public policy for the greater good.
Where in the World is Walter?
That’s what some classmates of Purdue student Walter Schostak might be asking this summer. Schostak is an international intern with the Global Policy Research Institute’s (GPRI) Policy Scholar Internship Program — in fact, he’s the first policy scholar to intern internationally.
Schostak is working in Brussels, Belgium, in the U.S. Mission to NATO in the Office of the Defense Advisor. He’s taking an active role in preparing for the upcoming NATO summit.
“This is going to be an incredible summer working at NATO,” Schostak says. “I spent some time sitting in on committee meetings to hear how industry interacts with NATO and the militaries and governments of the NATO nations. The best part was probably seeing how the U.S., though a powerhouse in NATO, is on equal footing with every other NATO country for most debates.”
The internship program provides hands-on training and application of classroom knowledge in a professional environment to influence Purdue students in their academic careers and prepare them to be successful, policy-savvy leaders.
