Purdue is one of Indiana's strongest economic partners. We help create jobs, nurture new businesses, support existing companies and help civic leaders make informed decisions about economic growth in their communities.
Lean and Mean
When Automatic Pool Covers (APC) saw opportunities to improve productivity, order response time, inventory levels and first-pass quality, it turned to the Purdue Technical Assistance Program (TAP) for help to implement Lean Manufacturing processes.
TAP provides high-value solutions that help Indiana businesses maximize their success by increasing profits, reducing costs, and implementing growth and innovation engineering systems. Purdue TAP serves more than 500 companies annually by implementing continuous improvement principles in the areas of productivity, growth and technology.
“Purdue TAP has been a key partner in our Lean journey,” says Michael Shebek, president of APC. “Although we have been manufacturing products for over 10 years, since we contracted with the TAP program, we’ve reduced our manufacturing footprint, reduced process hand-offs, improved productivity and — most significantly — reduced our manufacturing lead time by 68 percent.”
“As an advocate for manufacturers throughout the state of Indiana, Purdue TAP utilizes our resources to help these companies identify areas of improvement, streamline processes and ultimately increase competitiveness,” says Dave Snow, center director of Purdue TAP’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
Purdue TAP has helped its clients collectively achieve over $1 billion of economic impact in Indiana since 2005.
