Re:           Appointment of Head for Department of Nutrition Science

Date:        January 9, 2017

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michele R. Forman as Professor and Head of the Department of Nutrition Science in the College of Health and Human Sciences.

Forman, whose appointment began January 1, 2017, was previously the David Bruton Jr. Centennial Professor in Nutrition at The University of Texas at Austin.

She holds degrees in nutritional epidemiology (PhD), nutritional anthropology (MA) and epidemiology (MPH), all from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For more than 30 years, her research has focused on women’s health throughout the life course, with an emphasis on the effect of pregnancy, early childhood, puberty, and the reproductive years on the risk of breast and other hormonal cancers.

Forman served as chair and state-of-the-science subcommittee chair of the Interagency Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Coordinating Committee for the National Institutes of Health and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She was principal investigator for two county sites of the National Children’s Study and has developed and conducted 10 longitudinal cohort studies in the United States and internationally.

Michele Forman succeeds Dr. Connie Weaver, who remains on faculty after serving 25 years as department head.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Michele Forman to Purdue University.
