Purdue Di Shaan Informational

Hey everyone! We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are as excited as we are for the 2011-2012 school year!

Purdue Di Shaan (PDS) is Purdue University's very own bhangra team. As one of the finest collegiate bhangra teams in the Midwest, it is our ultimate goal to represent Purdue University at competitions across the nation and at local events and shows on campus.

Since 2006, Purdue Di Shaan has been displaying our talent and our beautiful culture to a wide variety of audiences across the country. Our first competition was in 2009 at the Hoosier Hungama competition held at Indiana University, where we placed 2nd! This incredible triumph paved the way for many more successes for our team. In 2010, PDS performed at our first national level competition, Raas Rave & Bhangra Blitz in Dallas, Texas. Our most recent competitive performance was last semester, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Aa Dekhen Zara dance competition.

In addition to performing at competitions, PDS also performs on campus. Our recent performances include Beta Chi Theta’s Diwali show, SASA’s annual show, Thaalam, and PSUB’s International Dance-Off, where we won the audience choice award for best performance in 2010!

If you would like to meet new people, make long lasting friendships, and most importantly, have fun, then PDS is the team for you! We are currently looking for new dancers and managers to become a part of our family, and we highly encourage everyone to come to our tryouts, regardless of dance experience! Purdue Raas would like to welcome everyone, especially new students, back to school for the 2011-2012 school year!

Purdue Raas made history in 2009 by being only a first year team, placing first at their very first competition, and being the newest team to compete at the first ever Raas All Stars. In 2010, they expanded their list of competitions and placed 2nd at Raas Rave, ending their competition season very well. In their third season, Purdue Raas had its best yet, by going to four national competitions! They began the season placing 2nd at Raas Chaos and ending the season placing 2nd at Miami Mayhem, being one spot away from qualifying for Raas Nationals.

Purdue Raas allows you to meet new people and make new friends not only with people at Purdue, but also with people from other colleges around the country! This year Purdue Raas will not only have a competitive team of 16 dancers, but also a team for local performances.

We hope to see you at one of our informationals where you can meet the captains, the manager, and learn more about how to tryout or get involved with the team! Informationals will be held in ARMS 1103. They both will be the same information session, so you only need to come to one!

The Vietnamese Student Association is having a callout for this upcoming Fall semester.

Come out to learn more about the organization and all the fun events that are coming up! This meeting is open to ANYONE with an interest in the Vietnamese culture and a want to meet new people and make the most of their time here at Purdue. You'll learn about what a well-rounded organization we are with the variety of events we host, including cultural, volunteer, leadership, social, philanthropy, and much more! All are welcome, so just because you're not Vietnamese doesn't mean you can't come!

We will have Vietnamese food at callout so come out for some free food and make new friends at the same time!

Bring your friends, roommate(s), or anyone who you'd think would be interested! It will be a great time! We will also be having a social event afterwards, that has yet to be determined.

Family Day is cosponsored with the PMU Dining Services, Purdue Athletics, and University Development Department. The day kicks off with the Pancake Breakfast in the Purdue Armory with a welcome from President Cordova. The Boilermaker Football Team will play Southwestern Missouri State at Ross Ade Stadium in th afternoon. After the game, families are invited to attend the Boilermaker Barbeque on the PMU Front Lawn. There will be delicious food, family friendly activiites, and live musical entertainment.
