Shared Resources

Computer lab

The department maintains a computer lab for instructional use in CIVL 4247. The lab contains 17 Linux computers and 17 Windows computers. Each workstation has one of each, sharing a common keyboard, mouse, and monitor. The instructor workstation also has an extra cable to allow laptop hookup for projection.

The Linux computers use the EAS Linux setup found in research labs across the department. The Windows computers are supported by the ITaP TLT group and are thus identical to ITaP labs and TIC sites across campus. Software requests for the lab should be submitted at least two weeks before the software is needed, to provide time for the software to be loaded and tested.

File server

The department maintains a file server (hypocenter.eas.purdue.edu) for the storage of files pertaining to departmental operations. Faculty and staff received 10GB of personally-assigned space. Graduate students receive 2GB of personally-assigned space upon requests. Group shared space is available for $400 per 96GB slice. All data stored on hypocenter is backed up nightly. For more information visit the hypocenter FAQ or e-mail eas-itap@purdue.edu.

File transfer

The department maintains a server (sftp.eas.purdue.edu) for file transfer to colleagues on- or off-campus. Space is available in 10GB slices. Since authentication is required, off-campus users will need to have a Request for Privileges filled out (these are available from the Business Office). For additional information, contact eas-itap@purdue.edu.

Poster Printer

There is a large format poster printer located in CIVL 2296. Access to the poster printer in only available from the machine next to the printer. This machine has Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, and Publisher loaded. There are two types of paper available (plain and glossy) available in two sizes (36" and 42" wide). If you need to have the paper changed, please send a message to eas-itap@purdue.edu.

The poster printer can become very busy before major conferences. There is a sign-up sheet located on the door of CIVL 2296 during the high-volume times.

EAS has four shared network printers. These are:

  • civl2169mlbw1 - HP LaserJet 8100dn

  • civl3277lbw1 - HP LaserJet 8150

There are several projectors available for checkout. Please see one of the secretaries in CIVL 2169 to make a reservation.

Video conferencing

Purdue has a license agreement with Adobe which allows users to use Adobe Connect (formerly known as "Breeze") to conduct video conferences. Adobe Connect is available at: http://gomeet.itap.purdue.edu/

If you have your own microphone and web cam, you can use that with Adobe Connect. If not, you can check out the department's video conferencing cart, which has a computer, camera, and microphone. To reserve the cart, send an e-mail to eas-itap@purdue.edu.
