Writing Lab

First Call is a 24-hour information and referral telephone service. First Call provides referrals for a variety of social services including support groups, emergency and legal assistance, housing, counseling/mental health, families, disabilities, employment/training, etc.
Academic Advisors & Counselors
Counselors affiliated with schools and departments assist students with course selection, scheduling, changing degree objectives, and other academic matters.

The Learning Center assists students in developing the learning strategies necessary to reach their academic potential. Instruction is available in a variety of formats: classes, workshops, walk-in services, independent study and appointments with staff. Topics include: time management, test-taking skills, note-taking skills, reading skills, etc. Additionally, the Center provides supplemental instructional sessions for courses that are traditionally difficult for students. Additional resources include an audiovisual lab and a computer lab. Audiovisual tapes and computer software programs are available for independent use.
Advisory Council on Disability Issues (ACDI)

The Advisory Council on Disability Issues consists of a faculty member from each school, an academic advisor, and three students, two of whom have documented disabilities. Council members are available to help students who need career advice or assistance working with instructors who have concerns about implementing academic accommodations.
Assistive Technology Center (ATC)

The Assistive Technology Center (ATC) provides access to information technology for students, faculty, and staff with disabilities at Purdue. This includes accessing written and electronic information. Students with sensory, physical, learning, or psychological disabilities may benefit from the computer software, hardware and other technologies available. Campus Accessibility Guide
The Campus Accessibility Guide is a comprehensive map that shows the locations of building that are accessible, partially accessible, and non-accessible. In addition, the map shows the locations of ramps or grade-level entrances, passenger elevators, wheelchair accessible restrooms, accessible tunnels, and TTY locations. Campus Accessibly Guides are available at the Disability Resource Center, the Office of the Dean of Students (SCHL), the Visitor Center, and on the first floor of Stewart Center.
Center for Career Opportunities (CCO)

The Center for Career Opportunities offers career information and career counseling, and provides job placement assistance. CCO staff maintain a file of job openings and arrange interviews with prospective employers.
The CCO houses the Career Resource Center, which offers counseling related to career exploration. Staff help students examine their interests, evaluate their abilities, formulate educational and occupational goals, and make decisions about majors and career paths. CityBus provides free bus service to Purdue students within the Purdue/West Lafayette/Lafayette communities. Busses on some routes are equipped with kneelers and/or wheelchair lifts (see the CityBus route schedule for further information). ACCESS Paratransit Service provides bus service to anyone who cannot use the fixed-route bus service because of a disability (call 742-2121 for more information).

Counseling and Guidance Center

The Counseling and Guidance Center offers confidential counseling services. Services are free, although there is a modest cost for test materials and scoring. The Center is the service and training facility in the School of Education.

CAPS is a department within the Student Health Center that offers individual counseling, group experiences, drug and alcohol consultation, workshops, seminars, and psychological testing.
Courses
The Office of the Dean of Students staff teach a number of courses for academic credit. These classes are designed to meet a variety of needs among students served by the Office of the Dean of Students. Educational Testing Service (ETS)
The Educational Testing Service administers a number of standardized tests (e.g., AP exams, GRE, PRAXIS, GMAT, etc.). Students with documented disabilities may request accommodations for these tests through ETS. Housing Accommodations

Housing accommodations may be requested by students with medical conditions. Housing Accommodations Request Forms may be obtained from the University Residences Administration Office located in Smalley Center. Forms must be completed by the student's physician and returned to the Disability Resource Center. The Housing Accommodations Committee will review the accommodation request to determine eligibility. The Office of the Dean of Students website also lists important housing information on the Off-Campus Housing page.
Individual Counseling
The Office of the Dean of Students counseling staff provide personal, academic, and career counseling by appointment, or students may walk in and see a "drop-in" counselor. Counseling for specific student populations is also available through other areas of the Office of the Dean of Students: Disability Resource Center, Span Plan, and HORIZONS.
Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP)
Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP) provides computing services for instruction and research, as well as data networking to all departments on the West Lafayette campus. Instructional laboratories are located in many campus buildings and in the residence halls. Off-campus users can access the campus data network via dial-up modems or higher speed ADSL connections.

The Lafayette Crisis Center offers a 24-hour crisis intervention/suicide prevention telephone and walk-in service. Services are free and confidential.

The M.D. Steer Audiology and Speech Language Pathology Clinics provide diagnosis, treatment, and counseling for speech, language, and hearing disorders.
Marriage & Family Therapy Center

The Marriage & Family Therapy Center offers services to individuals, couples, and families having personal or family-related problems. Therapists are available to work with students on a variety of issues (alcohol abuse, eating disorders, marital/couple problems, child discipline, etc.)
Parking Facilities/Visitor Information Center

Parking Facilities is located in the Visitor Information Center. Students with temporary or permanent mobility impairments may be eligible to purchase accessible parking permits. To apply for permits, students must submit a Parking Accommodations Request Form from their physician to the Disability Resource Center. Parking Accommodations Request Forms may also be obtained from Parking Facilities or the Disability Resource Center.
Purdue University Pharmacy

Students may have prescriptions filled and purchase over-the-counter medications. The Pharmacy can accept some major prescription drug plans. Payment must be made at the time of purchase by cash, check, or credit card.
Purdue University Student Health Center (PUSH)

Student Health Center services and resources include allergy and immunization clinic, a sports medicine clinic, a women's clinic, urgent care, physical therapy, counseling, and health promotion programs. The student health fee included in the tuition paid by full-time students covers the following services: unlimited visits to a clinic physician or nurse practitioner; nutrition consultations with a registered dietician; a limited number of consultation hours with Counseling and Psychological Services staff; urgent care physician services; health education services; and resource materials. Additional services available for a fee include radiology and laboratory tests, minor medical procedures, physical therapy treatments, immunizations, and physicals. The Student Insurance Plan supplements the medical benefits covered by the student health fee and provides coverage in the local medical community.
SSINFO
Student Services Information (SSINFO), an on-line system, is available to Purdue students. With a password, students can access and print class and exam schedules, identify tutors, request transcripts, examine financial status, etc.
Student Activities & Organizations (SAO)
Staff in Student Activities & Organizations administer more than 700 student organizations, including sororities, fraternities, and cooperative houses.
Tutoring
Purdue University does not provide tutor service as an accommodation to students with disabilities. However, the Coordinator of Auxiliary Services in the Disability Resource Center will give references for tutors to be contracted privately. They help students with disabilities identify tutors who are paid privately or by Vocational Rehabilitation. The following campus resources are available to help students locate tutors:

Tutor information can be accessed via the internet. Tutors are qualified and endorsed by academic departments. The list is updated regularly throughout the year.
- Alpha Lambda Delta: National Honor Society for Freshmen
Free tutoring service is provided by members of the Society. Generally, sophomore members tutor first year students. Tutoring is not available in all subject areas. For information about tutoring in a specific subject area, contact the department's main office.
Vocational Rehabilitation Services

The Office of Vocational REhabilitation (VR) assists persons with substantial barriers to employment because of a physical or mental condition. Services may include vocational counseling and guidance, telecommunications, sensory and other technological aids and devices (including adaptive technologies for computers), financial assistance during training or an educational program, and other support services. Services are free of charge. To apply, contact the VR office nearest your home community.
Writing Lab

The Writing Lab, an instructional service of the English Department, is staffed by tutors who help students plan, write, and revise papers for any course. Services and resources include help with papers, resumes, letters, library research, web research, editing and revising, writers block, English as a second language, tutorial sessions (drop-in or by appointment), computers with access to the Internet, handouts on various writing-related subjects, a grammar hotline, a writing/study room, and a library.
